An architect is a person trained and licensed to plan, design, and oversee the construction of buildings.
To practice architecture means to provide services in connection with the design and construction of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use.
Professionally, an architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus an architect must undergo specialized training consisting of advanced education and a internship for practical experience to earn a license to practice architecture.

On behalf of the Developer Client, they build the requirements called as Bill of Quantities (BOQ's), call for tenders, help the client in decision making on awarding the tender, engage in planning, execution, procurement, and closing the project.
They manage the constraints of the project viz., cost, time, scope, and quality.
They measure and verify the cumulative progress at end of each month and certify the payments to be released by the developer to the main and other contractors.
They usually charge a % fee of the tender value and / or a lumsum fee per month.
